Complete Tab of American Idiot (2004) by Green Day
Tabbed By Steve Gray (reizig@gmail.com)
Completed on 9/19/2004

Boulevard of Broken Dreams no longer sucks. Outro included.

***

This is a tab for the entire American Idiot Album, front to back,
lyrics included. If you want to post this somewhere, or use parts
of it, just keep my name and e-mail on it and you can do whatever
you want.

I am extremely confident about the accuracy of each tab, and I tried
to make each one as easy to understand as possible. But given the
structure of some of the songs, that was a little difficult. Just
pay close attention to the "Order" section of each tab and you'll be
fine.

For most of the tabs, the strumming pattern/timing is not included.

All tuning is standard (E A D G B E) except for Whatsername, which
is in drop D (D A D G B E).

Track 1: American Idiot
------------------------------------------------------------

Note: The xxx000 in the Main Riff/Verse is often overlooked.
Listen to the song carefully; it often replaces the final F#5.

As far as I've seen, though, they don't bother with it while
playing live, so you can just play an F#5 instead.

Lyrics:

Don't wanna be an American idiot
Don't want a nation under the new mania (Verse 1)
Can you hear the sound of hysteria?
The subliminal mind-fuck America

Welcome to a new kind of tension
All across the alien nation
Everything isn't meant to be OK (Chorus)
Television dreams of tomorrow
We're not the ones meant to follow
For that's enough to argue

Well, maybe I'm the faggot, America
I'm not a part of a redneck agenda (Verse 2)
Now everybody do the propaganda
And sing along in the age of paranoia

(Chorus)

Don't wanna be an American idiot
One nation controlled by the media (Verse 3)
Information age of hysteria
It's going out to idiot America

(Chorus)

Lyrics:

I'm the son of rage and love
The Jesus of Suburbia (Verse 1)
From the Bible of "none of the above"
On a steady diet of

Soda pop and Ritalin
No one ever died for my sins in hell (Verse 2)
As far as I can tell
At least the ones I've gotten away with

And there's nothing wrong with me
This is how I'm supposed to be (Chorus)
In a land of make believe
That don't believe in me

Get my television fix
Sitting on my crucifix (Verse 3)
The living room in my private womb
While the moms and brads are away

To fall in love and fall in debt
To alcohol and cigarettes (Verse 4)
And Mary Jane to keep me insane
And doing someone else's cocaine

(Chorus)

Lyrics:

At the center of the earth
In the parking lot (Verse 1)
Of the 7-11 were I was taught
The motto was just a lie

It says home is were your heart is
But what a shame (Verse 2)
Cause everyone's heart doesn't beat the same
We're beating out of time

City of the dead
At the end of another lost highway
Sign misleading to nowhere (Chorus)
City of the damned
Lost children with dirty faces today
No one really seems to care

I read the graffiti
In the bathroom stall (Verse 3)
Like the holy scriptures of a shopping mall
And so it seemed to confess

It didn't say much
But it only confirmed that (Verse 4)
The center of the earth is the end of the world
And I could really care less

(Chorus)

Dearly beloved are you listening?
I cant remember a word that you were saying
Are we demented or are we disturbed?
The space that's in between insane and insecure

Oh therapy, can you please fill the void?
Am I retarded or am I just overjoyed
Nobody's perfect and I stand accused
For lack of a better word, and that's my best excuse

Lyrics:

To live and not to breathe
Is to die in tragedy (Verse 1)
To run, to run away
To find what you believe

And I
Leave behind (Chorus)
This hurricane of fucking lies

I lost my faith to this
This town that don't exist (Verse 2)
So I run, I run awy
The light of masochist

And I
Leave behind (Chorus)
This hurricane of fucking lies

And I
Walked this line (Chorus 2)
A million and one fucking times

But not this time

I don't feel any shame
I wont apologize
When there ain't nowhere you can go (Piano Interlude)
Running away from pain
When you've been victimized
Tales from another broken...

Lyrics:

Say! Hey!

Hear the sound of the falling rain
Coming down like an Armageddon flame (Hey!) (Verse 1)
The shame, the ones who die without a name

Hear the dogs howling out of key
To a hymn called "Faith and Misery" (Hey!) (Verse 2)
And bleed, the company lost the war today

I beg to dream and differ from the hollow lies
This is the dawning of the rest of our lives (Chorus)
On holiday

There's a drum pounding out of time
Another protestor has crossed the line (Hey!) (Verse 3)
To find, the money's on the other side

Can I get another Amen? (Amen!)
There's a flag wrapped around the score of men (Hey!) (Verse 4)
A gag, A plastic bag on a monument

(Chorus)
(Bridge)

The representative from California has the floor:
"Zieg Heil!" to the president gasman
"Bombs away!" is your punishment
Pulverize the Eiffel Towers
Who criticize your government (Interlude)
"Bang Bang!" goes the broken glass man
Kill all the fags that don't agree
Triumph by fire setting fire
Is not a way that's meant for me
Just cause... just cause - because we're outlaws yeah!

I beg to dream and differ from the hollow lies
This is the dawning of the rest of our lives
I beg to dream and differ from the hollow lies
This is the dawning of the rest of our lives
This is our lives on holiday
