SONG: Pulling Teeth
ARTIST: Green Day
ALBUM: Dookie
TUNING: eADGBE (standard)
/ - slide up
x - muted, struck string
PRE-INTRO:
E|----------|
B|----------|
G|----------|
D|--3-------|(4x)(1 second pause)
A|--1-------|
E|----------|
INTRO:
|-------------------------------|
|-------------------------------|
|--3--(8x)-----------3--3/5-----|
|--3--------6--(5x)--3--3/5--6--|
|--1--------6--------1--1/3--6--|
|-----------4----------------4--|
on the last repeat just before the reg. verse,
repeat the Bb power chord (-x-1-3-3-x-x) 9 or
10 times to lead into the verse.
VERSE: This is the chord progression,
just listen to the song for the
rhythm ( ~ separates each part
of the progression, kind of like
each 'mini-progression' i guess)
|--------------------------------------------------|
|--------------------------------------------------|
|--3--~--5--~--3--~--7--~--3--~--5--~--5-----7--8--|
|--3--~--6--~--3--~--8--~--3--~--6--~--6--5--8--8--|
|--1--~--3--~--1--~--5--~--1--~--3--~--3--5--5--6--|
|-----------------------------------------3--------|
that part @ the end is the last part of each verse
i.e. when the lyrics hit:
..... But this time i can't get up
and the timing goes like so:
|------------------------------|
|------------------------------|
|--5--------------7---------8--|
|--6-------5------8---------8--|
|--3-------5------5---------6--|
|----------3-------------------|
But this time I can't get up
So that's the VERSE pattern
CHORUS: The Chorus is when the Lyrics hit
"Is she ultraviolent? Is she disturbed?"
|----------------------------------------------|
|----------------------------------------------|
|--5-------------------------------------------|
|--5-------------------------------------------|
|--3-------------------------------------------|
|----------------------------------------------|
|----------------------------------------------|
Is she ultraviolent? Is she disturbed? ...
Before she does it all over again, oh god she's ...
|--------------------------------------|
|--3-----------------------------------|
|--3-----------------------------------|
|--1-----------------------------------|
|--------------------------------------|
|--------------------------------------|
... I'd better tell her that I love her
... Killing me!
SOLO: (listen to the song for the rhythm)
|8-6-----6--8--|--8---8--8------6--|--8-----6------6--10-|
|-----8--------|-------------8-----|------------8--------|
|5----0--------|-------------0-----|------------0-----7--|
|--8-----8--10-|--10--10-10-----8--|--10----8------8-----|
|--------------|-------------------|---------------------|
|--------------|-------------------|---------------------|
11----13----11--10--11--|------------------------------6-|
------------------------|----------------------9---8-----|
8-----10----------------|----------12------12------------|
------------13--12--13--|--13--13------13--------------8-|
------------------------|----------10------10--11--10----|
------------------------|--11--11------11----------------|
6-4--4-3--3-3-4-|-3-3-1--1-------|-3--4--3--4--6--10--11-|
----------------|-----------4--4-|-----------------------|
-------0--0-0---|-0-0------------|-0-----0--------7---8--|
8-6--6--------6-|-----3--3--1----|----6-----6--8---------|
----------------|--------------6-|-----------------------|
----------------|----------------|-----------------------|
you don't really NEED the lower notes, i find doing just
the top set of notes works just fine, but using the lower
set as well does make it sound better. if your a guitar
newbie, you may want to stick to the upper set until you
feel comfortable enough to use the bottom. Also, if your
playing live for a group of people and want it to sound
really good, repeat the SOLO with a bit of twanging the
second time around, this is optional,
Billie Joe doesnt repeat with twang-age.
after the solo the CHORUS comes up again,
and then is followed by the INTRO progression
as the guitar part for that VERSE.
then after that, is the final verse using a modified
Verse progression that goes like this, it's sort of an outro
but done while singing the last part of the last VERSE:
|-------------6----|
|-------------6----|
|--5----------8----|
|--6--5--5/6--8----|
|--3--5--5/6--6----|
|-----3--5/4--6----|
So then the order is as follows:
PRE-INTRO 1x
INTRO 2x
VERSE 2x
CHORUS 2x
VERSE 1x
SOLO 1x (2x optional)
INTRO 5x-6x
VERSE w/ outro end 1x
I hope this isn't too confusing for you. This is all my own work,
done meticuously for your playing.
